Oct 7 - Winterthur in Wilmington, Delware

On October 7 I visited Winterthur, one of the homes of the DuPonts. This home is one of the most beautiful in the US. It is nine stories tall and has 175 rooms. I toured a couple of floors. I have just a few photos, but if you get the chance to visit here, by all means do so.

The first picture is just the Winterthur sign. I liked it. The second photo shows an odd shot up a spiral staircase. The third photo shows a shot of a dining room, and the fourth photo shows the main house. The last photo shows a small house in the enchanted garden, one of the many gardens on the property.

The value of the objects inside must be staggering. At least in the hundreds of millions, probably more than a billion. There is one small chest that my guide said was worth $3 million. There were two of them, and there were many pieces much more impressive. There was a whole collection of Campell Soup tureens, some made from silver and gold. There was a painting of George Washington with his family. Very unique. Normally one sees Washington on a horse or in a military situation, not with his family.
